Coincidences – how they could upset Professor Abbott’s apple cart.
What are the chances that someone other than Carl Webb had a relative named Keane? And that the ‘someone other’ was also named Webb and was occupying a slab in the same morgue and at the same time as Carl?
Fanciful stuff that, pity we don’t have details of whatever other citizens were reported to the Coroner by the police in 1948. But wait.
We do ….

And there are a couple of Webbs in there, and believe it or not … a Keane.
And to make things even more interesting and courtesy of Gordon Cramer we have a Webb in the morgue at the same time as Carl Webb: George Webb.

Then, to cap it off we have Captain E.J. Webb who conducted the Somerton Man’s burial service.
Be interesting wouldn’t it, if we had enough information to learn if any of this Webb mob had a Keane in the family, and a man can only wonder what their individual DNAs might tell us.
In summary …..
Meet the Webbs: Carl, Alan, Grace, Louisa, George and E.J .. and although not all of them occupied a slab in the morgue, it appears they all had some sort of physical interaction with various officials who had a connection to that particular establishment.
But who’s to know, eh?

From memory, in 1948 Capt. E J Webb the Salvo, shared a house (47 Smith St. Southwark) with a Keane (machinist) just a stone throw from the WT mortuary. A year later y’man had disappeared, never to be heard from again. That be some coincidence by my reckoning, but sadly there were no SM fans in the Pelling camp (or elswhere on the board) at that stage who when told, who thought likewise.
