I was talking to Colleen Fitzpatrick the other day ..
Well, to be more exact about a year ago I spoke to a woman who worked with her, the professor being too busy elsewhere in the building to come to the phone. So I asked the lady if she could convey my one question to Prof. Fitzpatrick. No problem she replied, what is it?
I asked her …
“Did Colleen Fitzpatrick ever agree that the man tagged as Charlie (below) was the Somerton Man?”
A couple of minutes ticked by before the lady came back and picked up the phone.
”No, she didn’t have anything to with it, that was all Professor Abbott’s work.”

DA’s response will be….. I’ve no doubt a deafening silence?

Abbott is well known for his lack of judgment, remembering his obsession in proving Robin Thomson shared his DNA with his wife Rachel – basing it all on the shape of SM’s ears and those of Robin Thomson. How he appeared to be more interested in her DNA, teeth and ears rather than her personality. She thought him a nerd. How he proposed to her the day after they met, no prizes for knowing why he was in such a hurry so I can only imagine his embarrassment when realising his children were not directly related to the man at the centre of one of Australia’s greatest mysteries and the real reason for marrying Rachel in such a hurry was thusly discredited.

With that sort of record, and knowing how Abbott had a hand in bringing to public notice the the photo of ‘Charlie’ tagged as the Somerton Man, a man might have serious doubts about his ability to think straight.

Well, Colleen has drawn a line in the sand, not persuaded by DA that Charlie was the SM.

Derek Abbot’s initials reminds one of Australia’s famous DA beer. DA stood for ‘Dinner Ale’, or to us less sophisticated NSW corn stalkers, ‘Dirty Annie’. Most of us were welped on the brew, that is til the the maker’ went bust some years ago; and though it made a brief reappearance in 2002 before folding, just like our abscent minded professor, DA who is no more.
