Time isn’t exactly flying down at Forensics SA
Today, two years, eight months and twenty eight days since the exhumation of the Somerton Man and now we’re halfway through ‘early 2024’ and still no result.
Perhaps something is seriously amiss: a complication, an embarrassing predicament, a matter of national security, political heads in danger of rolling, stolen cars supplied to people involved in the investigation, altered evidence, corruption, judicial incompetence, something deeply hidden in secret files potentially in danger of being exposed, international involvement, CIA? KGB? MI5? … Links to SA weapons development, red faces far in off places. Links to interstate crime organisations. Reputations trashed. Guilt established. History to be re-written.
We are discreetly uneasy, wondering if the plot is thickening.
Why are we waiting?

I just get the feeling that they can’t decide how to play their cards, they’re in a bind. Possibly, someone’s career maybe on the line, so they’ll just keep delaying the result. That’s assuming, of course they have a result.

In the past forensics was a game of chance and there were big winners and big losers with lots at stake. These days it really gets down to science and how civilian lab geeks get paid well enough they can’t be bought like their ‘whatever fits the job Bob’ Safcol preds.of yore. My belief is that they probably have a real good candidate that needs to be confirmed by outsiders who can’t be hurried. Might well relate to something more traditional like gaining max FP/POS for a very particular coroner.

I’m thinking more of the Durham prints being put through for a second run. Never know with the post war refo influx missing the cut first time around. Have you noticed how quiet things are at Dome’s, must be getting the same news I’m getting from the talent.

My feeling is they are still hanging on in order to see if one of our “super sleuths” here can score a knock out blow that proves, conclusively, that Webb can’t be the guy found dead on the beach. When they feel it’s safe, then they’ll announce it was Webb all along….the cover up will then be complete.
