Evidential V Circumstantial.
Xanthe Mallett believes we will never know who the Somerton Man was because there is no evidential pathway that proves beyond doubt that the hair (s) used by Colleen Fitzpatrick to identify the body of the Someron Man were those of Charlie Webb.
Fitzpatrick produced no chain of evidence. No step by step images of the procedure used to show the removal of hair from the bust, something a forensic genealogist of her stature would be expected to produce, particularly in a case with such worldwide implications and more so with regard to her reputation as being the best in the field of forensic genealogy.
So Fitzpatrick settled for circumstantial evidence. Near enough is good enough.
Meanwhile …
The SA Forensic outfit may well say one day that they have proved SM was Charlie Webb though those of us with good memories might recall that Coroner Cleland ruled in 1949 that the body found on the beach had in all probability died elsewhere only to change his mind in 1958 to rule he died where he was found.
Justice is not always prudence, particularly when it it is inconvenient to the truth.

It should be noted that in an online conversation with one of Fitzpatrick’s staff it was admitted that she played no part in the identification of Charlie Webb as being SM. That decision was down to the Professor and nobody else.

Seems that Fitzpatrick must have been having a bad day and putting her reputation on the line. Abbott must have used his ‘charm’ on her, like Roma, to get what he wanted. Whichever way you look at it, it doesn’t say much for Fitzpatrick’s standing.

My NP/CM related op ed comment of 3/8/22 @ 7.06am on the original Carl Webb ID thread, supports your sentiments exactly. Up to you squire whether you put it up or not. Dome’s down again and the giant yellow emoji faces must be driving him bananas.

I’ve never understood why Kean (or Keane) managed to spell his own surname wrong.

Keane is Irish origin
The Irish accent sounds like Kane
The UK accent sounds like Kane
The US accent sounds like Keen
Written as variations of “keen” when heard from American accent

Yea also explains why he had juicy fruit gum which I read wasn’t avalible in Australia during that time.I also think he was a C.I.A agent,or a Double agent, which explains why they had him buried quickly after the examiner discovered his skull had been tampered with.

Juicy fruit could have been a “plant”? To Americanise him?

When the necktie is viewed as Kean JR (junior)
likely because the JR is written as a subscript below Kean
it removes the spelling problem of Keane and Kean
JR use is common with Americans
Kean is on the singlet so that fits in
Kean and not Keane would mean Carl Webb family
has nothing to do with it because there is no link with Keane
and the man in the grave and on the beach isn’t Carl Webb
and accordingly the authorities have not matched the DNA

So, he could have been some kind of “soldier of fortune”? Never returned to the states and found work whenever/wherever he could even if some of the work was dangerous?

Clive, there are so many unanswered questions in this case it’s hard not to wonder whether the ID of Charlie Webb as the Somerton Man is equally as suspicious, add to that the inordinate amount of time Forensics are taking to complete their investigation. Like the man said, there’s something crook in Rookwood.

Joe V. Strange but, for some reason I’ve always thought it was odd when Paul Lawson went to the morgue. SM’s body was pointed out to him, as if he had a lineup of “stiffs” to choose from.
