The Somerton Man code may well have been cracked.

The Rubaiyat handed in by pharmacist Freeman was never photographed- read Feltus – the code written on the back never decrypted.

But what  if it was? What if that was the reason the book was never released to the Press, was reported lost by DS Leane, was not sent to Naval Intelligence, was not seen by Gerry Feltus, was only said to have been seen by two ‘reliable’ policeman?

What if it was the reason Jessica  Harkness’ identity was hidden for over 70 years. Why Chemist Freeman’s name was only released decades after his involvement.

Why incorrect depositions made by senior police went unchallenged by the coroner.

Why crucial facts were ignored.

Happy with all that are we?

This book, this most important piece of evidence.

Said to be lost by the detective in charge of the case.

This key to the mystery.

And if we are to believe the South Australian Police, knowing all this are we then to believe like them that there is  no mystery?

Are we to believe that the police investigation was a litany of investigative errors and unsupervised procedures?

Two years plus waiting for them to identify the DNA of the man buried in the Somerton Man’s grave.
