The Sly Dog Strikes – SA Senior Politicians Run For Cover

Breaking News from SA’s Attorney General: the Somerton Man has already been identified! Part 1

I had a random day off yesterday (Wed 28th of Jan) and popped past the local supermarket to get a few things midafternoon. On my way out the SA Deputy Premier and Attorney General, The Hon  Kyam Maher MLC, was there campaigning with the local incumbent MP for the electorate; the SA election is fast approaching. I went over to say hello, grabbed a nice quality calico tote, exchanged a  handshake with the DP and pleasantries with the MP (her right hand was in a splint – too much hand shaking in recent weeks?). I then addressed Mr Maher to see if it was OK to hit him up with a question. It could have been about anything, but he was more than happy to oblige… always smiling.

Kyam Maher (how’s the irony?)

I asked him, as the State’s Attorney General, when we would be likely here the results from either Forensics SA or the State Coroner about the identify of the body exhumed from West Terrace cemetery – a man who had died on Somerton Beach back in November 1948. “The Somerton Man….” He replied with an even bigger smile. He said the identity had already been made public, “a professor from the University of Adelaide, who’s name I can’t recall, had done the genetic work and identified him. A man from Victoria who had split from his wife. It would be easy to find on the internet”. Seriously I was thinking? I wasn’t sure if he was referring to Prof Abbott or Prof Hanneberg and was about to ask for clarification, then he mentioned the Prof ended up marrying a woman whom the Prof thought was a relative of the Somerton Man… so he was definitely talking about Abbott.

He said the identity wasn’t that exciting after all the talk of spies stealing secrets from Woomera, and that he personally was hoping that the SM was an Eastern Bloc spy.

Mr Maher seemed to know some details about the case (he mentioned he was named after the poet Omar Khayyam who wrote the Rubaiyat) but did say the book of poems was thrown into a car parked out the front of the nurse’s house, and it matched the piece of paper found on SM with the words Tamam Shud that means ‘the end’.

More to follow…

Breaking News from SA’s Attorney General: the Somerton Man has already been identified! Part 2

I asked if we would be seeing any findings from the Coroner’s Court to confirm the identity, as I semi-regularly look at the findings posted to the web and keening waiting for a confirmed identity, and he replied something along the lines that the identity was already known, so it wasn’t likely there was going to be any additional work done by the State Government of SA.

I think he wanted me to move on as there were plenty of other constituents there doing their shopping to meet and great, so he changed the subject and asked if I would be supporting the incumbent MP at the upcoming election, to which I said yes of course (that MP had actually door knocked our place before the last election and had a chat whereas the previous incumbent was a right FW who did not). I think he and the local MP thought I was some kind of kook. I can’t imagine what they would think of the other way more hard core SM internet commentators!!

I walked away thinking that didn’t seem right, hopped in my car and drove home.. I was a bit absent minded contemplating the fact that the State’s AG thought Prof Abbott’s work was scientifically sound that I made the rookie mistake of driving right past where they were standing! Not sure if Mr Maher or one of his staffers took my rego down to past onto SAPOL or not. Needless to say I didn’t get a visit last night or this morning from the higher authorities telling me to keep my mouth shut and stop asking questions or else. The coming days will tell.

Now half of you will blurt out “Cover up! Back then and still to this day…” while the other half will probably say “Hah!, told you so, it’s Carl Webb”.

You heard this first on Toms By Two and certainly not on the TS Blog Spot.

Doesn’t say on his wiki bio which electorate K. Maher connects with but being a first Australian with two top jobs in the SA mish mash guess he don’t need one. Kyam Mayer be content with a seat in parliament in order to manipulate his native brethren to his far left socialistic views. If he was after my vote I’d vote him in based on his apparently being Keane on sausage rolls. Wiki don’t mention anything about Adelaide pasties but you can betcha he’s into them too just like all Crow Eaters..Kyam is the first and only FA to hold down both AG & DM portfolios together or apart. To top that score I can think of yet another Aboriginal Sth. Australian who got the top job; can anyone guess who?

I was in the Gibson electorate, takes in the famed suburb of Somerton Park. Mr Maher was supporting the local incumbent MP.

Sense something isn’t quite kosher-easy to state ‘a professor’ says it was a man from Victoria, SA or Victoria, BC?

Sorry, scrub out SA! I wonder if another politician, in election mode, would say exactly the same, if asked the same question?

Former South Australian AG Vickie Chapman wouldn’t, and didn’t, last time I was in contact with her, after she ordered SM’s uplift from West Terrace. She had been an avid follower of the Tamam Shud case as a young law student.

Anyone notice that Cramer’s latest scan of a page out of Col. Wake’s blue book, looks more like one of the Dead Sea Scrolls, or perhaps a blurred image of a badly damaged Rosetta Stone.

  10. I remember Cramer mentioning a while ago that he had established a link between Wake and Boxall, one to add to his mistaken belief that Wake was shadowing Gordon Strapps and Olive Neill – Well I’m pleased to add some substance to his claim of a link between Wake and Boxall, seems Wake in his senior position had a say in the establishment of the NAOU, better known as the Nackeroos, a Northern Territory based coast watching operation of which Boxall (who was also a spy, according to Cramer) was a member.

Not sure about Wake though i did once mention at CM a likely connection between big Bob’s lifelong pal Valdermer Augenson and Boxall but can’t recall where and when. Two days ago Qld Uni. released a brief summary of Val’s pre war DCA air surveys & exploration in Qld. Got a feeling he was doing similar work in NT and New Guinea during and post WW2 and had a posting there in the fifties from memory. This stuff was researched and posted on years before Cramer had ever heard of either man. Suggest anyone interested to read my past related extensive posts on dingo Pelling’s CM before the rot set in.

Sure I’ve mentioned that many military photo height charts can be get way out. Case in point being that of Bob Wake in his NAA file shots frontal and side, that seem to mystify Cramer and his Anons. Note that according to the chart reference in this case it shows around about six inches distance between Bob’s fleshy jowls/chin tip and centre of his forhead just below the hairline; Whereas on your average adult male such distance would likely be nine to ten inches at least. There’s your missing four inches between shown height of 5′ 9″ inches add a bit and true height for Wake of 6′ 1″ Chris Cramer. Piece of piss to a trained soldier Hope my explanation resolves your quandary. Stay safe y’hear, both of yous (the Co.).

Pete old boy. Strange that you have remained silent on the implication of the discrepancy between Bob Wake’s height as given on page 1 of his NAA file – 6′ 2″ – and that shown when he is standing by the measuring chart on page 3 – below 6′ – in connection with the height of Roy (5′ 8″?) Webb.

        https://recordsearch.naa.gov.au/SearchNRetrieve/NAAMedia/ShowImage.aspx?B=4489799&T=P&S=1

        https://recordsearch.naa.gov.au/SearchNRetrieve/NAAMedia/ShowImage.aspx?B=4489799&T=P&S=3

Dusty says that Bob has a short (but presumably extendable) face – perhaps the same was true of Roy?

        https://recordsearch.naa.gov.au/SearchNRetrieve/NAAMedia/ShowImage.aspx?B=6137776&T=P&S=16

By my reckoning that would make Roy about 6′ tall when his face was stretched out to its full elevation (or if the Australian measuring charts were 4″ out of kilter, or the blokes were told to slouch, both of which seem more likely).

What say you Bozo? Tip: use the magnifier on the images provided above.

        • Steve, for the life of me old son, I cannot remember you giving an opinion on (1) the possibility that Stuart etc got their dates wrong, (2) the 3 inch difference in height as previously mentioned so many times, (3) the possibility that the Amy in the family photo is in fact the daughter, (4) the mysterious disappearance of the Freeman RoK, (5) the possibility SM was in Adelaide to meet Prosper … see where I’m getting to mate? You’re a vacant space when it comes to stating a position, but you sure know how to babble, I’m thinking empty vessels here, you with me?

You just reminded me Bozo, got waylaid by more urgent business half way through my last post. OK this really is simple simon logic. If papa Webb be 5′ 9″ (police record), then so was second son Roy, confirmation being his Army photo (see chart) all in order right? Then there’s Colonel Bob Wake’s side and frontal photo images alongside a similar chart showing him to be 5′ 9″, and his WW2 service record gives his height as 6′ 1″, another 6′ 2″. So there lies the problem as raised by Mr. Cramer, then commented on by me to explain the obvious fault. No big deal really, but for Steve (6′) H’s ramble with links to upset the balance.

Come on Pete. I have commented on all those issues in the past but you don’t listen.

    See this comment for example:

    https://ciphermysteries.com/2022/12/28/dating-the-webbs-family-photo#comment-487215

Which got Stu a bit hot under the collar:

    https://ciphermysteries.com/2022/12/28/dating-the-webbs-family-photo#comment-487222

I followed up on Amy in a later posting: “Some CM commenters, especially Jamie S, have been worried about the woman who Stuart Webb identified as “Amy”, and particularly her lack of embonpoint in the chest department. They have concluded that this individual is a girl. To me she looks like a fully grown woman, but not one in her 30s, especially one who died in 1929 after suffering from a long illness according to the Camperdown Chronicle of 6 June 1929:

“Mrs. Webb, wife of Mr. Russell Webb.
Deceased, who had been ill for some
    considerable time, was a well-known
    resident of Camperdown, where she
had many friends who will grieve to
    hear of her death.””

    https://ciphermysteries.com/2022/12/28/dating-the-webbs-family-photo#comment-487921

Nobody else (well. maybe Dusty?) was talking about Amy’s illness back then! See Sharon’s later question to me “What was your thoughts on Amy? That she appears too young?” Dating the Webbs’ family photo… – Cipher Mysteries and my reply immediately below.

As for Prosper and the ROK I stated in my second ever comment on CM that amongst the things we do not know: “That it was Webb who wrote the letters/phone numbers imprinted on the copy of the Rubaiyat or not. It might have been a second hand copy he found in a Glenelg bookshop. And if he did why all the focus on J Thomson when P Thomson is a much better bet and was known to be living at the same address in Moseley Street (or claimed to be).”

Steve H: you’re the song and dance man? (so you claim) then how’s about giving us qyour own rendition of ‘Midnight in Montgomery’. If only to humour dingo Nick’s bevy of lovelies who seem to have abandoned Chuck Webb for good ol’ south bound weather blimps. Can yous recall the tune, ‘up up and away in my beautiful balloon’. Speaking of songs & C & W songs in particular, did you know that the great Hank Williams’ grave is right there in Montogery cemetery, if you, AT, Jo or Dianne care to swing by some time soon on the CM mission.

Alan: nice yarn but a bit too long for one session and I’ll get back to it when I get a chance. Your Alexander Arthur Downing certainly has some SM credentials, no doubt there. However you should be made aware that y’man has a bunch of scars including one below his chin, both shins, appendtomy plus gun shot wounds to both arms and right leg from WW1. If you don’t mind, bloke reminds me of CM Nick Pelling’s early candidate Thomas Lawrence Keane who was also covered in bullet holes, from the big one, all five foot six inches of him.

  21. John, Funny your slip of the tongue says Downing. There’s a guy in Arlington named Elmer Downing Smith who crewed with a guy best known by 3letters who left College to get back at those who re-arranged Pearl Harbour. You may remember yonks ago a lady from Kentucky said she had a DNA match with Chuckles and Smith was the tie. The last line of my Pidgin mentions ElmerS. He was in Comms. As for my Alex A Dowling (5’11”, grey eyes, brown greying hair) Chuckles (AAD) was meant to drift away on the 30th, but on checking that night it was observed that he hadn’t snuffed out. AAD was a dead beat vagrant who (half the time) frequented the Repat just down the road from Jo, who did part time there. The other part was under bushes in caravan parks and on the beach. He wasn’t well, but he just had to play a short part. Perfect to fill in for Charley so C could do a runner to O/S. The substance I mention is fatal when delivered in a 10+ times by volume dose. At such a high dose it has to be placed in a large muscle group like the thigh to hold that amount. But it won’t take effect if the subject stays still as the muscles need to pump the dose around, like hobbling across a road with assistance. AAD gets put back in the water Wednesday and turns up in seaweed Saturday. The substance was well known by the AU and RAH graduates of 1923/4.
As for the SA AG, if murder and inappropriate dealings with bodies is the go, they can’t say “Nup”.
There’s still Malcolm Anstice Rafferty who stalked and beat up Scotty’s Mrs and Thomas Spencer Hall Cutlack who was cremated earlier on the same day as the unknown man was buried. Everything on that day was brought forward to avoid crowds including cremations.
What do they say? “The hand is quicker than the eye”. Someone using the name Malcolm Anstice Rafferty (ships engineer) disappeared without trace in 1959. His family were sheltered by successive Tasmanian Governments with the rest of their family changing their surname. They all live/lived about 2km from Charles Woolley.
Peter Cundall would say “And that’s your lot”.
    “Out”

Fair enough to take the piss out of old Bozo as opposed to the usual spiteful abuse directed my way.
