SA forensics .. are they up to the task?
Some of us have our doubts
In the years it has taken since Prof Abbott and his colleague Colleen Fitzpatrick announced their success in identifying the Somerton Man to the world we have been waiting for the SA forensic folks to use the the state of the art advancements to either confirm or deny what Abbott etc has staked their reputations upon ..
Some of us have our doubts. Forensic science over the years since the exhumation of SM’s body have improved to such a degree that we surely should have expected some sort of response.
Serious doubts.
Remembering that Abbott’s earlier insistence of an ears match between SM and a family member. A miserably failed exercise his reputation depended upon at the time. Yet he survives. And he remains as the man who claims he has found the proof that SM is Carl Webb.
His record is not good, never mind the 3 inches he missed.
Is something being suppressed here, like a lack of any findings or something found that opposes Abbott’s view?

So what is it with the SA forensic outfit? Are they so hopelessly out of date? Are they using semi-qualified students in their research as Abbott did in his earlier years?
To believe that you have to reconcile the trust we hold in those whom we trust and those in whom we doubt.

The cover up seems as big today as it was at the time.
If the SM’s identity is that of a man as mundane as Charlie Webb , then I can’t imagine what there would be a cover up over…and probably the only thing we all agree on is that there is a cover up.
Webb was barely an household name within his own house! This is another, of about half a dozen reasons why I can’t believe it’s Webb. There’s nothing about him that would warrant a cover up…and yet anyone who isn’t a phuquing idiot knows its a cover up.

I’m certain nobody remembers Abbott’s junior UoA investigators mistaking the seaman Tom Read for labelling the white tie, when I challenged them they pulled intellectual rank and all I could do was demonstrate my colossal indifference to their UoA arrogance by naming this site as Tomsbytwo – being one for their Tom Read and the other for Tom Keane.
Plus I edited the Wikipedia entry to reflect same.

I’ve said it all along, if DA had any nous he would have let sleeping dogs lie. You’ve got an inkling, being straight after WW2 and the beginning of the cold war, so leave it alone. There is no victory in finding out who this guy was and that is because of what it was. The whole thing was started by a glory hound who should have thought twice about what it really was all about and what he was doing. Now he has egg on his face. As the lady said, a much higher authority than the police. And it’s a much much higher authority than DA and the UoA.
