The Somerton Body case and the somewhat bleedingly obvious..
1 – The Freeman Rubaiyat was meant to be found (see 3).
2 – The timing of its (alledged) finding was deliberate in that it happened after the inquest was adjourned.
3 – The code and Harkness’ phone number were meant to be seen. What spy dumps his spy book into a car parked by the side of the road?
4 – Harkness was obviously a person of interest, yet she was left in anonymous peace and not re-interviewed.
5 – Freeman too was a person of interest yet he too was allowed lifelong anonymity.
6 – The consequent and early disappearance of the Freeman Rubaiyat – said to have been lost in DS Leane’s filing system – beggars belief.
7 – The coroner’s decision to close down the inquest without subpoenaing Freeman and Harkness was unexplainable. (see 2)
8 – The apparent disappearance of Det. O’Doherty’s official report of four people seeing a man carrying another man along Somerton Beach the night before a body was found raises many questions.
9 – The investigation itself appeared to have been inexpert, lacklustre and without proper focus.
10 – and remembering that the fingerprints taken from the body were sent to all states in Australia plus the FBI but were never proved to have been matched with any items in the suitcase.
….. and what was it about a drug addict and violent wife beater that made the case so infuriatingly complex?

anyone?

Points 1,2 & 3:-were these “signals” to certain parties that the case was in the ‘correct’ hands?
Points 4: How did Jessie get away with this obvious deception?
Point 7: Both should have have been subpoenaed
Point 8: O’Doherty’s report would have raised some unwelcome questions

it’s seems something a serial killer would do! You guys heard of the zodiac killer in the US? Dude would leave cyphers and codes, to which baffled the agencies, they only managed to crack some of his codes, to stick to the subject in my honest opinion, I think the people who can 💯% crack the code are either dead and gone or keeping to them selves!

Why, of all places, was the SM found dead on a beach, a beach within walking distance of 90a Moseley St? If Jessie & Prosper were involved in his demise, surely the last place they would leave a body is so near to their house, unless, of course, it was ‘payback’ time by someone else involved? And, this ‘payback’ ploy didn’t go as planned, i.e. the police did not delve into Jessie & Prospers background as others had planned.

Totally agree with Clive. With the body left so close to her house and the only clue, a book with her phone number in it…it seems someone was trying to set Harkness up.

The movie “The Courier” is a pretty good insight into how persons can be recruited for government intelligence service
Jess probably did place herself in danger as Boxall alluded to. After all, if SM thought that she was going to blow his cover, she may well have been removed to prevent that.

I wonder if the SM had been a patient known to Jessie, in the NRSH. She mentioned this to Alf and, told Alf she knew about his illness and mindset.. Alf’s mention of Jessie being ‘very courageous’ was that a reference to this patient?
