The TWO Charlie Webbs.

Charles Carl Webb – Abbott and Fitzpatrick’s pick

Charles Richard Webb – or is this the man?

Same colour hair. Same tufted hair above the ears. Same curly hair. Same parting on the left side. Same bulbous forehead. Same left ear prominent. Same right ear not so. Same height as Roy. Same surname as Webb. Same family. Both named Charles. SAME DNA. Official. No Derek Abbott involvement. Enough said.

”So which of these two Charlies is in the family photo? Personally I think it’s Charles Richard Webb .. “ Nick Pelling, 3 Dec. 2022.

Roy was known to be 5’8” – The Somerton Man 5’11 .. Charlie here doesn’t look to be 3” taller than Roy and we’re supposed to believe he’s the Somerton Man.

Can’t even be sure the Overlander was running on the Monday due to coal strikes in Vic. Just checked with Trove re arrival time in Adelaide and they wanted to sell me an electric train set.

    What a shrewd little spy

He escaped the fare rise on 1 December 1948

Melbourne to Adelaide £2/15/6 up from £2/10/0

(no rise for first class though)

Draw an imaginary railroad on top of the ears from one side to another and do the same through the eyes. Then look for pitchblack bushy eyebrows and compare.

      Nup

There’s been no train to Glenelg for 100 years

There’s plenty of remnants though. The old platform at Plympton on Marion Rd opposite Mooringe Ave is still there and a lot of the land which was the rail corridor from the city is still there through the suburbs (see on Google Earth)

    Dud knows F. Hall

Not only no train to Glenelg in the day but no Mosley St. either. There’s one in Hilbert W.A., another in Wichita KS with rail links to Transcontinental Nebraska NE, and one in Jo’s Manchester. Seems that a Henry Moseley opened his Pier Hotel at 2 Jetty Rd. Glenelg in 1856.

Does anyone know who flagged that image from the family picnic as Carl?

its not exactly consistent with the other rare images of our C Webb

Ps the “Transcontinental” question was actually a private joke but I over estimated the Colonels ability to fathom that. Sorry Colonel.

    • You want to know what inveigles me? (1) Was that photo of Roy, ‘Charlie’ and the oldsters the only one tagged? And (2) howcome it was the only page in the album stuck with the page in front?

With all the coincidences in the SM case, you could mark up the photo page ‘stuck in the album with another page’ as just another one. But, it just seems a bit too much of a coincidence, that out of all the album pages, just this particular page happened to be the one stuck to another page. A hidden message perhaps?
