Just to remind those of us who may have missed the SENSATIONAL news that the Somerton Man has been identified as a one Charlie Webb .. a world-shattering news event that has resulted in headlines such as in in Australia, Great Britain, Goonellabah, Ireland, America, Canada, New Zealand, Tonga, Hawaii, Sri Lanka, Goonenbary, Lismore, Pakistan, Glasgow, Uranus, Paraguay, Brazil, Chili, Mexico, The Sudan, Tanzania, Tamarama, India, Russia, Hungary, Estonia, Turkey, Ukraine, South Africa, Uganda, Swaziland, Morocco, Syria, Iran, Iraq, Vietnam, China, Turkistan, Afghanistan, Iceland, Iran, Uzbekistan, Italy, Israel, France, Holland, Germany … Tahiti, Bondi, Byron Bay … the known world alight with the news of this unravelling of one of the great mysteries – the identity of The Somerton Man.
But the South Australian forensic authorities, those whose determination may prove the veracity of this claim have struck again .. or rather, they haven’t struck.
- They have the Somerton Man’s bones, his teeth and the DNA secreted within them but here they stand in full public view many hundreds of days later, their well-paid hands raised in an impoverished supplication, suggesting that for reasons unpublished their investigations have been delayed because of the queue of bodies awaiting process, the untrustworthy supply of power in the laboratory, un-functioning toilets, the inability to find a reasonable cup of coffee together with the general tiredness of the less than qualified professionals involved in the process, they being so being so busy, so busy.
…Hence the wager as suggested ..

Considering this is a mystery that has enthralled many people from all over the world for literally decades, you can’t tell me that the government would think the identification of SM doesn’t warrant any preferential treatment in order to “jump the queue” in the DNA testing stakes.
I expect they don’t even need to test it because they knew who SM was the day they interviewed Harkness and have gone to extraordinary lengths to keep that to themselves, ever since.
The problem that we all have is… if the authorities published the DNA results tomorrow, and gave his identification…would we be daft enough to believe them?

Pete… Something else that has bothered me.
After donkeys years, and after much dragging of feet, the authorities finally agree to exhume the body.
At more or less the same time, Colleen Fitzpatrick, independently comes up with her DNA results…(from the hair with seemingly no provenance)
I don’t know what that can mean but It seems too coincidental.

Guzz … the police always gave the excuse that an exhumation shouldn’t be done in order to prove a theory, ie that Derek Abbott’s wife was SM’s granddaughter.. plus, and according to Feltus he was a pain in the arse. I don’t know what made them flip.

On the subject of the hair, I read an article stating there was a fellow I think he was a cop,in the caption it said his last name was Webb.He was present when they buried the SM,so I am thinking the hair sample came from him! I know it’s just My own opinion but I’m sure he was present at the morgue.

Alan…the amount of coincidences surrounding this case borders on synchronicity. My favourite one is that another bloke, called Webb, was found dead on the same beach a few years earlier. Seems that Somerton Beach is no place to be if you have that surname.

Vickie Chapman had the courage to do what those before her didn’t. Despite the reason for her eviction being given as a minor dodgy land deal (the former Victorian Premier successfully evaded much bigger ones Scot free) it was because of SM exhumation approval. Vickie Chapman, I salute you.
