Who to trust with the truth of the mystery of the Somerton Man?

Nick Pelling? Lovely fellow but seriously inactive with regard to our shared purpose. Typical of a Pom, he’s faded in the face of fast bowing.

Derek Abbott? Not so lovely but indelibly connected to the case he’s been proved so wrong so many times. Ears? Please discuss. Seriously. DNA? Forgeddaboutit.

Yours truly … Handsome and adept, creative and knowledgeable, a friend to all, plus he surfs, or used to.

What I do in my spare time

John Sanders .. believable, knowledgeable, moderately shifty, a man with an impeccable record, kind of.

Plus all of those contributors who risk their reputations for commenting on this site, all of you armed with imagination and reasonably argued positions is as being reasonably arguable positions.

And then we have …

Gordon Cramer. So clever, so slippery, so untrustworthy. Plus he thinks Pavel Fedosimov is our man, plus he claims to have cracked the code, plus he says SAPOL needs his advice, plus he claims everything in the suitcase was planted, plus he claims everything about the Freeman Rubaiyat hides micro-writing, plus he denigrates and defames all of the above.
He squirts his disparate seed amongst his thronging believers .. but as we all know .. a mug is born every minute.

Let’s hope a few of them are reading this.

If the Code is cracked-what’s the message? It’s a simple question, eh?

You can imagine all sorts of solutions. Most don’t relate to the events, ie horse racing doesn’t fit the events. There’s some clues that do relate to events that have been established. He came to Adelaide from Melbourne, by Overland train, he went to Glenelg a beach in Adelaide, he was in Adelaide before December, he doesn’t know Adelaide. When you apply the events as clues to the code, you get a train line with a level crossing X above the letter O for description of Overland train and that really is all you need to conclude that it is a message to board the Overland for Adelaide. The first letters on each line are M including the last line which is a ditto for M. You get Melbourne Leave / Adelaide by Overland. The reason it hasn’t been cracked in the early attempts is because the / was taken as a letter I and some of the first letters were taken as W. You will never solve it when you are using the wrong letters. It’s just a message to proceed to Adelaide by the Overland and go to Glenelg (to meet up with Jess). Rail Get Overland and Be Aboard Before December fits the events. Adelaide is a Quiet City fits the events. Glenelg Adelaide Beach with the waves below fits the events. You only need to crack part of it to get the gist of it. All of it is in upper case letters, which is of a form from a teleprinter message, that is forwarded as a hand written message that retains the teleprinter format and a bit of extra detail added, the train line and level crossing X. The Rubaiyat is a recognition signal sent to SM be used by SM but it is actually a Trojan Horse which is used to put a tag on him to mark him. Here’s another scenario of what happened. A genuine US agent was to arrive here and keep a low profile and gather intel about possible espionage links, and that was known by the Australian govt. The US agent gets bumped off before he leaves the US by SM and his identity is assumed by SM. The agent’s death can’t be revealed because it would blow the cover for their operations. SM boards Pan AM for Sydney and travels to Melbourne as per info he found out about the US agent. SM is tracked and hunted down in a trap, with the message sent to him in Melbourne to proceed to Adelaide, forming part of that trap. SM is arrested by police, taken to Angas Street, pumped for information in the cells by intelligence officers. They get the intel because SM knows he is sprung and finished. That confirms the situation. Because SM bumped off a US agent, SM gets bumped off as well.

Horses for courses Shabby and when you’re on a good thing stick to it. Best racehorse during the immediate post war era, winner of all the big races from 47/50 including the Melbourne Cup, was Morphettville trained Comic Court. The big fellow was often excercised along Somerton Beach to Brighton dunes of a morning by strappers from Lee stables in nearby Wilkinson Ave. Just short clip to the beach access at Ferris Ave. then back a few yards to Alvington beach steps. Forgive me if I’ve covered this in past posts but won’t hurt to remind our detractors that Col. Arthur Lee MC (2) met with swim pal and near neighbour jeweller Lyons on the morning of 1/12/48 at 6 sharp; and it was he who allerted Jack to strappers Neil Day & Horrie Patching with their mounts at X marks the spot.

Well, who are we to trust and who is active on the case, especially the cypher? I’ve got some ideas but don’t know who to direct them at or where to go next. I’m not convinced he is Carl Webb but possibly closely related. Tamam Shud meaning – ‘it’s over/the end’ I think refers to WW2 and that he could have been SOE.

  6. Jeanette, we are all cynics here, believing the circumstances of finding the Somerton Body is a set up, but that being so, nobody has a believable explanation as to what the set up hides.
    Which makes it so interesting.

So, you are welcome to join the club.
