It’s Official.
I thought to slip off an email to Forensics SA the other day to see how they were going on the Somerton Man DNA exercise as after about 915 days on the job I’m thinking they might have some good news.
Got a response a little while ago.

OFFICIAL
Dear Mr Bowes
Thank you for your enquiry. It is not possible for Forensic Science SA to provide public comment on our work for any cases without the required authorisations from government. I would suggest that the best pathway for you might be to direct your enquiries to the authority which is managing that case, namely South Australia Police.
Regards
Forensic Science SA

A rude thought intruded, if ‘ it is not possible’ for SA Forensics to release any public comment then it’s up to SAPOL to do so,
or not.

Typical bureaucracy passing the buck, perhaps a reminder is due as to who pays their salaries?

Used to joke that that’s what privatisation was about – blurring the blame.Complain to the bus company the bus runs late and “we don’t make the timetables”
Complain to the Transport Authority the bus runs late and “we don’t run the actual buses”

A certain glory hound of seemingly high intelligence should have used his nous and let it be. It was the Cold War. There is nothing to be gained from any of this now

Pete…gallant effort in trying to hurry up the process mate.
The reply, of course, is a classic example of being given the “run around”.
I read an article, some time back, about a British UFOlogist who was trying to get information over some alleged alien abduction event in Todmorden (bizarre case) from a few decades back.
He was given the “run around” so attempted to get papers released under the so called FOIA (Freedom of information act).
He still got the run around because, basically, the FOIA is pointless/useless.
If the authorities don’t want you to know…you’ll never know…and I believe this has been the case with SM since the day he was found on the beach.
The article mentioned that some historian tried to use FOIA to disclose secret papers from the friggin Crimean War!!!
He got a knock back due to the interests of national security! (That old chestnut.)
Therefore, if they can hold out on information over an war from the 1850’s…then I hope you are a patient man, Pete.
