Sunset

I’m calling it sunset on Carl Charlie Webb – he is who he is was.
And I’m calling it sunset on the source of his identification – Grannie was the one with the blue ink.
– and I’m calling it sunset on the missing 3 inches …. Richard Charlie Webb, step away.
But that doesn’t mean we’re off the job.

Sorry PB your sunset clause may need a re think on Granny’s pensmanship eg., first pic with the Charlie facials blanked out has no endorement; second print which was not used has names way up high in the frame. Whereas the third, with names re positioned much closer to the subjects is the one Stuart Webb and the ABC finally settled for. If as you say, granny be the blue pen culprit then so be it but, which granny are we talking about and when, that is the question.
There’s an interview with Stuart where he mentions unsticking two pages of a photograph album and BINGO … there it was, the foursome photo tagged up high in blue by his grandmother. I found a copy. The other renditions most probably done by various TV / newspaper outfits.
I wonder if the other renditions went via DA?
What about this Hickey Taylor business PB, anything in it? I’m refereeing to the potential Adelaide / high heals / potential of a relationship that at the time would have been illegal.
Dunno mate, putting this story together with all its component parts is like knitting with spaghetti … but I’m going to give it a shot. The Bookmaker needs an overhaul, this time online.
I have all three shopped copies plus grandma’s high marked album copy and the same writing hand is unmistakable!
Ok, can you make out what’s written in the top right-hand corner of Gramma’s copy? Too faint for me to read. I’ve stuck a copy up on the post.
thedude747 Actually the business you are talking about with Mr Hickey Taylor was not illegal in South Australia. SA was the only state in Oz where that interaction was not against the law. That’s why SA was so popular with all sorts of tourist and locals alike.
Peter pointer’s shadow doesn’t help. Need to see the end of film again to give Roy the nod or not. I’ll check later (bike repairs) and get back.
OK so it’s Stuart’s “Pa” Norm’s (21/2008) album and we can chose between “Nanna” Hilda (d ’85?) or Lois (Val) wife No 2 (d ’95), who he claims wrote the names; depends on his age, looks younger than stated 51. I’ve also seen a better resolution of “THE” photo and yes name spells ‘Roy’. Where to from here, should the CM ladies or wait for Steve Hurlstone to interject?
Shrugs shoulders, drains schooner, tells his mates they can figure it all out themselves then goes and sits with ladies in the saloon bar .. chats up Ethel and buys them all a sherry.
Street lights at Aspendale are of interest, not original obviously but most councils will try copy the heritage style from the area not just wack up an old fashioned light, google earth, Wyuna Lane, Aspendale runs parallel to the beach, Wyuna Ave leads from the main road directly onto the beach right near the bathing boxes. 1935, Springvale had a public holiday for the school picnic/ sportday at Aspendale.

Collins Street directory from the 30’s for Aspendale. Not many streets, 1920’s photo with hedges bordering the road.

I can confirm that the photo of Grandpa, Charlie, Grandma and Roy had some post production photo shop work done on it by the ABC, to bring the hand written titles into frame more prominently. The original titles were as they appear, in Val’s handwriting – simply in a different position. Several photos were discussed & viewed -the two that have been circulated are the only ones that appear to be of Charlie. I can confirm that the photo of Charlie is definitely not Charles Richard Webb – the family have lots of other photos of CRW, throughout his life & are not keen on sharing additional photos online. Over & out!
All those family photos, all those albums and only two photographs of Carl Webb, both taken on the same day – and there he was living in Melbourne from 1925 (at least) to his disappearance in 1947 – Over and Out back at you Jo.
Yep…Carl Webb takes the concept of being “camera shy” to a whole new level.
And yet, in the two photos he appears in, his demeanour suggests someone who is the gregarious one amongst the family.
Jo
I be a little less emphatic than you, due no doubt to your closer links to our FB ‘stick it in the family album’ keeper Stuart but, thanks for re affirming like descriptions of the relevant pic re runs in my several recent utterances, both here and abroad.
We need the head-honcho at the state coroner’s office to get his/her arse into gear and tell us, once and for all, if the SM is a Webb, or not.
Someone give me a name to this coroner so I can fly over and leave a horses head in his bed. The inactivity is killing me.
