34 Things folks know and things they don’t about the Somerton Man Murder Mystery..
Some folks have been suggesting that the Somerton Man may have been killed by a glycoside laced cigarette, or had some of it smeared over the abrasions found on his knuckles, or had it injected in some spot on his body that escaped detection.
Other folks think he may have bought his pasty at one of the local pie shops,
.. or was given it for his supper.
Most folks accept the Somerton Man didn’t die where he was found and believe he may have been carried to the beach already dead.
Others think he died of positional asphyxia where he was found.
Everyone knows Jessica and the Somerton Man were well acquainted, just as everybody knows he had her telephone number and was found close to her home.
Not many remember that Prosper had a condition (haemoptysis) whose side effects could be treated by taking liquid glycoside, a product available at pharmacies without the need of a prescription.
Most folks keep their drugs in a cabinet in the bathroom.
Many folks know Prosper used Jessica’s home phone number for his classified advertisements.
Some folks accept the signed statement made by the man who saw someone being carried along Somerton Beach the night before the Somerton Man’s body was found.
These folks also accept the Somerton Man would not have been capable of lighting the cigarette found half-smoked on his collar, despite the pesky opinion of the witness Lyons, who said it was unsmoked.
These same folks view with some suspicion the statement made by the police that SM was found to have a box of matches on his person, GF included, though not in so many words.
Nearly everyone knows that DNA links to Rachel Egan were found in the grandparents of Prosper Thomson.
.. and everybody knows that because of this late finding, Derek Abbott admitted that his ‘head is spinning.’
As a result, and given all the above, a few of the above-mentioned folks might concede that the apparent murder of the Somerton Man may have had more domestic overtones than it did of the international variety.
Something that, apparently, had never occurred to the investigating police.

Was the SM ‘bumped off’ by Prosper’s family?
Motive, Clive, every murder needs one.
Could be anything at that point, though? Wouldn’t necessarily be part of the public record.
He’s the long lost idiot brother/cousin/uncle: on his uppers, scrubbed up in his remaining finery, fresh in from the boons with his every last tranklement in a suitcase, here to collect his supposed dues. He knows something, is owed something or he’s just a right royal pain in the arse.

Motive, could be that he knew too much about Prosper and his associates, and their ‘business dealings’ interstate and elsewhere?
We were all over that years ago and got nowhere, right Dude? Meanwhile I’m wondering why Roma dumped young daughter Rachel for adoption in NZ and who shared Jessica’s bed nine months before Robin was born. Murders can oftentimes be family affairs.
i think it may be something to do with the Somerton Man finding out the lady was pregnant with his child but knew she was with another man and maybe the other man fixed the Somerton Man so he wouldn’t get in the way of the new relationship, it would seem that all the findings and DNA would make the assumptions of who is who in this mystery pretty much spot on … that’s just my view

One of Jessie’s relatives told me that she had a life long interest in pharmacology. Her uncle was a toxicologist (=poisons), a pharmacist and pharmaceutical manufacturer. Toxicologists in the 1940s would have been rare beasts. The medical experts believed that SM was probably poisoned. What are the odds? From memory most poisonings are committed on family or close associates.
