Would a spy be so careless as to leave evidence?

Nobody uses plain text to communicate secret intelligence. Plain text is used to communicate a common knowledge.

A man with a connection to the weapons industry in SA during the forties would be not hired as a spy if all he could use for his communications was plain text.

You don’t have to read the literature to know this.

Not a spy bozo; merely a Zodiac style psycho killer, careless by design. Your Le Carre thread provides the oft overlooked ‘plain text’ accrostic answer…as in “My name Is ……”.

Le Carre has always been optional; why not Bozo?. Sorry for any unintended offence.

    • No problem. Why am I thinking that none of the Somerton Man punters have ever read more than two of his books?

Because le Carre is not so much into the atom spy or tiny writing genre perse; besides I’ve found that most of the more recent TS/BS and Bigfooty punters are of the ‘better led than read’ category.

    • Sensitive lot, those BIGFOOTY fellows .. don’t like to be Nancied with.

  4. .. in response to an email from someone I’m certain would like to remain anonymous: secret communications are not written in plain text because (1) they incriminate the author (2) they betray what should be kept secret, and (3) they provide the means of rolling up a network.

One would certsinly have to agree with your ‘someone anonymous’ that plain text would (1) incriminate the author in say the case of verse 70 or letter Q for instance.. Not to be confused with all other ‘anonymous’ posters to that particular anonymous someone’s BS site….As for points (2) & (3), I am not qualified to comment.; perhaps you’ll need to confirm (or deny) with an ex former member of AfIO who shall also need to remain anonymous (SOPs).
