What if Jessica was involved in espionage before becoming pregnant in October 1946 and leaving Sydney for her parents home in Melbourne where she gained work as a language teacher and met Tibor Kaldor?

….  what if Kaldor appealed to her left-wing tendencies and convinced her join a network of anti-fascist, communist sympathisers?

…  what if Jessica’s move to Glenelg was to place her in close contact with the South Australian members of the network?

… what if the South Australian members were released communist sympathisers working in the labyrinths of South Australia’s secret projects?

… what if Alf Watt was their go-between?

… what if Kaldor’s purpose for visiting Adelaide was to meet SM for the exchange of information?

… what if SM’s purpose for visiting Adelaide was to meet Kaldor for the exchange of information.

… what if Jessica was their go-between?

… what if the CIS / FBI / CIA / MI5 suspected Alf Watt as being a part of the network?

… what if the Rubaiyat was found in Kaldor’s possessions and deliberately left close to Alf Watt’s home?

What if Jessica was planted?

What background would Jessica have for being a language teacher? She barely made it out of nursing school, years later.

  2. She probably taught English.

What if Jessica were a plant earlier than leaving her parent’s home in Melbourne? We don’t hear much about her actual parents or her birth. Could she have been one of the numerous children relocated to Australia during that period? Perhaps, this gave her a facility for the Russian language and culture. I would think teaching English to Russians would be daunting.

have a look at Jessie’s cemetery record. There is no birth date listed, which is unusual and suggests that her family did not have this information.

‘No birth date listed’ would suggest that her ‘family’ didn’t know what it was because she was possibly a refugee from Europe? I know it sounds absurd, but if she had escaped from say Poland/Germany in the late 1930’s & made her way to Australia that would make sense, particularly, if her papers had been destroyed/lost. Do we know when she converted to Judaism? I ask that because she looks Jewish on the photo with baby Robin, or am I mistaken?

    • What mother forgets the day her daughter was born?

Perhaps she didn’t have to learn Russian, because she already spoke it?

  7. How many documents would have Jessica’s birthdate recorded?
Birth, death and marriage, car driving licence, bank loan, passport, records at the RNS, records in NAA, travel agents, visa applications (she travelled overseas) ….. bank accounts.
    Where are they?

  8. Pete – Unfortunately for the time period that Jessica was born, it is often not possible to find birth certificates. Sometimes they’re posted and sometimes, they’re not. I think it also depends on where in Australia one is born and what the “rules” are about the information being made public. I have found it similarly difficult to find birth certificates for others (in less unusual circumstances)…

Car driving licence, bank loan, passport etc…are not accessible to the general public. Which we, unfortunately, are…

The complete lack of information on the naa surprises me as well but then again, sometimes the information is there the whole time but difficult to find without the right clues/names/references…

    • Thanks Misca, I wonder how many of Jessica’s RNS colleagues also don’t have a NAA file.

      October 17, 2016
      • Pete – Probably most of them don’t have a file in the naa. They also are most likely not to have been questioned regarding their possible involvement in an unsolved murder.

        • That wasn’t the reason I asked. What is the criteria for having a NAA file, any government service?

Jessie sure seems to have had a guardian angel, quite a high level guardian angel, based in the ACT?

Something to think about vis-a-vis Clive’s recent conversation with Mr. Lawson…

A fellow named Horace Allan Pile and his second wife moved to Adelaide in 1951. There’s an interesting article about him here:

Unfortunately, they got into a terrible car accident where it appears she was driving but without a license. They both testified that he was the one driving although witnesses claimed it was a woman at the wheel. She was convicted and fought the conviction and won. T E Cleland was her lawyer.

  11. T E Cleland’s law partner was a certain Teesdale Smith. His daughter Elizabeth was the first female union secretary in South Australia:

  12. Misca, Did you read the Gallery notes and see a reference in the documents to Zoroastrianism? Vashti?
