another look at the rubaiyat code …

Ewald Steiniger was a Lutheran pastor interned in 1942 at Loveday, SA and released in October 1944. He published copies of letters he had written to and received from his wife, Annemarie while interned and called the book In God We Trust.

Tibor Kaldor

Tibor Kalder was another internee. Kaldor committed suicide in Adelaide in December 1948 and left a comprehensive suicide note which Gordon Cramer put through an acrostic decoder. The decoder came up with the name Danetta.

In Hebrew the meaning of the name Danetta is God is my judge.

The five lines of code found on the back of the Rubaiyat have been turned inside out a thousand times, another couple won’t hurt.

the code

W/M? RGOABABD MLIAOI WTBIMPANETP MLIABOAIAQC ITTMTSAMSTGAB

Danetta.

Imagine this scenario: in a period of (say) 12 months a series of messages must be passed between two couriers, messages hidden in plain sight, and the authenticity of the message is only confirmed when the receiver sees the name Danetta in the script.

~

W/M? RGOABABD MLIAOI WTBIMPANETP MLIABOAIAQC ITTMTSAMSTGAB

In God we trust.

It’s a great pity the first character on the last line isn’t a U.

Thank you and good morning.
